MAMSS Lunch & Learn Session with Sentact: Suspension of Privileges
Presented by:
Sharon Beckwith, President, Peer Review and Clinical Quality Consulting, Sentact
Of all the challenges facing medical staff leadership and committee members, some of the most difficult involves the timely management of a provider suspected of having competence or conduct issues. Suspension of clinical privileges limits privileges prior to completion of a professional review action but does not mandate any disciplinary action.
The process of suspension will be discussed in this presentation as well as other approaches that may be used to address concerns with a provider’s care.
-
Define suspension and understand its advantages as well as limitations when addressing provider performance concerns and quality of care.
-
Discuss the steps involved when investigating provider performance concerns and the use of suspension of privileges to assure patient safety.
-
Understand effective alternative approaches to address competency and behavior issues as opportunities for performance improvement.
-
Articulate the impact of the suspension to the provider under review.
This webinar has been approved for 1 NAMSS CE Credit.
